Research Focus:

My research broadly focuses on interactions between hydrology and biogeochemistry in the landscape. For my PhD, I'm looking at how management of water in suburban areas affects biologically-mediated processes in soils that produce natural greenhouse gases (nitrous oxide and methane). By concentrating nutrient-laden water in stormwater control structures or roadside ditches, we might be creating hotspots for production of these gases. I'm combining field research and watershed modeling to better understand these processes, and how we might improve water management practices.
