Research Focus:

Jennifer's research harnesses the massive biomass production capacity of tobacco to produce industrially important enzymes in large quantities.  Specifically, she is using a set of chloroplast-transformed tobacco plants to express cellulolytic enzymes needed to produce cellulosic ethanol.  This research involves identifying the best growth conditions as well as fine-tuning the molecular-level controls to optimize recombinant protein production.
