Hongfei's research focuses on studying the effects of sdiA, a luxR homologue, on adherence of hemorrhagic Escherichia coli (EHEC). LEE (locus of enterocyte effacement) genes expression is essential for EHEC colonization in intestine of bovine or human. Our work will examine the kinetics of LEE genes and sdiA transcription in EHEC, and how cell-to-cell signaling plays a role in modulating these genes. This study will provide insights for prevention of EHEC shedding in cattle by interfering with LEE genes expression.
