Ed's research goals are in the fields of proteomics, microbiology, and biological engineering. Current research lies in fermentation of sugars into ethanol utilizing Saccharomyces cerevisiae and enzyme production / purification. Our goal is to expand understanding of the molecular and genetic mechanisms that are used by cells to handle stress such as high sugar, high product concentrations, and high osmotic pressure. Data obtained following fermentations can provide essential validation of the computational models which in turn can be used to improve modeling framework.
